This series of canvases grew from a playfully cumulative poem encountered by the artist in a popular science book about particle physics. Written in the style of “The House That Jack Built,” it moves from the Large Hadron Collider to the particle, the Higgs field and the photon.
The paintings translate that poetic chain into visual form, approaching complex scientific ideas through simple, almost folkloric language. They connect the structures of matter with questions about direction, infinity, creation, movement, technological change and human connection.
English adaptation reproduced in the artist’s portfolio:
This is the Hadron Collider,
That CERN built.
This is the Particle,
Kept in the dark tunnel’s gilt,
In the Hadron Collider,
That CERN built.
This is the merry Higgs Field,
That makes the Particle frequently tilt,
That lives in the dark tunnel’s gilt,
In the Hadron Collider,
That CERN built.
Here is the Photon,
That the merry Higgs Field cannot wilt,
That makes the Particle frequently tilt,
That lives in the dark tunnel’s gilt,
In the Hadron Collider,
That CERN built...
