About the work
Strings of the Soul draws parallels between scientific and philosophical approaches to life. Through an analogy with string theory, Polina Zhadko considers the distinct forms, colours and resonances of human feeling. Each String is individual, just as people differ from one another.
Just as people are unique, each String possesses its own distinct form and color. In the same way that individuals differ from one another, strings shape our space as billions of particles, each vibrating differently at the quantum level.
String of the Soul No. 10 possesses a unique sensitivity: it interacts with objects that approach it. The installation responds by changing color when something enters its personal space, visualizing the boundary between self and other.
